Easy Sandbox Assembly

Build your family a spacious, safe and attractive children's sandbox, with ease. The patented Frame It All system makes building a sandbox a snap. You’ll only need a few tools and a little time and soon your kids will be enjoying hours of play.

What you’ll need:
In addition to your Frame It All sandbox kit, the only things you’ll need are some landscape fabric, a hammer, a tape measure and a screwdriver (electric or battery operated preferred).

Step 1: Find A Space
Find an open area, preferable near your home, a swing set or other play area. Allow for a full six-foot perimeter around the sandbox. The more level the ground the better and if you can find an area that receives some sun (to dry wet sand) and some shade (to offer kids sun-protection in the summer time) so much the better

Step 2: Measure the area. Lay out the liner.
Once you’ve found the spot, measure out where you plan to place your sandbox. If the ground isn’t level, use a shovel and rake to get the land as smooth as possible. You can build your sandbox right over grass because you’ll be laying a landscaping liner as a base to keep the lawn from invading your sand. Roll out the landscape liner, cutting lengths to allow amble coverage of your intended sandbox area. Overlap liner by at least 6” to assure no open seams allow room for plant life to grow through. (Or better, Scenery Solutions provides large, seamless liners for our Frame It All sandboxes).

Step 3: Assemble Timbers and Brackets
Frame It All Composite Timbers measure 44.5”. Slide your Composite Timber into the channel end of one of the brackets until it is centered and flush on all sides.  Use the supplied screws to fasten the Composite Timber to the bracket as shown in diagram 1. Repeat this process on the opposite end of the Composite Timbers flipping the bracket in the opposite direction as pictured in diagram 2 (this will save you time later when installing the  Timbers). Repeat this process until all of your Composite Timbers are fully bracketed on both ends.

Step 4: Laying The Frame
Over the top of the landscape liner, lay out the base level of design with stake fins facing up as shown in diagram 3. Design adjustments should now be done if needed. Once the desired position of base level is achieved, turn stake fins facing down and hammer stakes into ground see diagram 4 (Note: Do not fasten cap unless level is finished). Do not hammer stake in too deep or caps will not lock to stake.

Step 5: Stack Your Sandbox
If a multi-level sandbox (deeper sand) is desired, slide a second stake into all of the exposed tops of the in-ground level 1 stakes and put the level 2 Composite Timbers in place until level two is completed. See diagram 5 & 6 (Note: You can continue stacking additional levels until reaching your desired height).

Step 6: Finish The Frame
To finish the appearance of each joint and to secure the brackets over the stake, push or tap the supplied caps into the tops of the stakes until they snap in place. See diagram 7.

Step 7: Fill with Sand
The best sandbox sand is pre-washed, weed-free and has a nice grain. It comes in 50lb. bags and is available at many home and garden centers, often called ‘play sand’. Another option is to order from a quarry by the truckload. This can be less expensive but you’ll have to choose your grade. You should also check to see if the sand contains silicon flakes, which is a potential hazard to children if swallowed.

Generally speaking, you’ll need 1150 lbs. (.4 cu yards) of sand to fill a 4' x 4' sandbox to a depth of 8 inches. A 7' x 8' hexagonal sandbox would require about 3,350 lbs. (1.2 cu yards) of sand for 8 inches of coverage. And a 10' x 10' octagonal sandbox would require 5,550 lbs. (2.0 cu yards) of sand for a 8 inch depth.

Step 8: Enjoy!
Your new Frame It All sandbox is ready to be enjoyed. If you purchased the specially fitted tarp (recommended for keeping your sandbox sand clean and free or debris and animal waste) be sure to install it after play.
