Five Tips For A More Beautiful Yard

To add a professional landscaper’s look to your yard, follow these five simple tips:

Design around a focal point
Professional landscapers know the secret to an elegant design is choosing a focal point. This might be your home, your front door, a solarium, gazebo or formal garden.  All other elements in your yard should visually ‘flow’ toward the focal point to create a harmonized, single landscape composition.

Use Landscape Borders to create a neat appearance.
Once you’ve chosen a focal point, and then use landscape edging to section off flowerbeds, walkways and other elements from your lawn. This creates a clean, neat appearance. And will also help keep mulch, soil and pea stone from spilling over into your grass.

Use Consistent shapes
If you have a naturally curved focal point (like a pond or water feature) use curved shapes in your landscape edging. For more formal shapes (like a squared off English garden) you’ll want the accent elements (paths, beds, etc.) to have more angular shapes that compliment the feel of the focal area.

Choose the right style of landscape edging
There are two types of edging, flush-to-the-ground and above-ground. Flush edging - whether wood, plastic or metal - has two drawbacks. First, it can rot over time due to contact with soil. Second, it doesn’t do as good a job keeping the mulch, soil or pea stone out of the grass.  We recommend above ground edging because it does a better job of keeping lawn, walkways and beds separated.

Choose The right landscape border material
With above-ground edging appearances count. After all, you’re going to see the edging. Raw lumber can weather, splinter or rot over time giving it a sloppy, aged appearance. Plastics can come in unattractive or unnatural colors that draw attention away from your landscape. Metals can rust or dent, diminishing from their appearance. The Frame It All system uses Composite Timbers made from a blend of wood fiber and UV-protected polypropylene. They won’t splinter, they resist warping and they won’t rot. Frame It All Composite Timbers and Anchor Joints are colored to blend into and compliment your landscape providing a decorative edging that is effective at separating lawn from beds, while also adding to the beauty of your yard.
